Soroptimist International of Salt Lake - Women’s Opportunity Award

The Women’s Opportunity Award begins with a cash award at the Club level of $1,000. The winner then becomes eligible to compete at District and Region levels for two $3,000 and one $5,000 awards from the Soroptimist Foundation. Each year 29 region-level first place awards are distributed through SIA headquarters. From these 29 winners, three federation finalists are selected to receive $10,000 each.

In 1993, Victoria Fisher received the local, regional, and federation award, which, at that time, totaled $13,250. The award helped her complete her degree in teaching and put money down on a home for her and her children. The support she received from the Soroptimist women made finishing her degree easier, and left her with lifelong friends. When she completed her degree, she joined Soroptimist International of Salt Lake and is currently an active member.
