Horizonte Instruction and Training Center is an alternative high school that serves more than 10,000 students of all ages from more than 80 countries. Adult education students in Utah have a strong desire to improve their own lives and the lives of their family members by moving from public assistance to self-reliance.

As our main service project, Soroptimist of Salt Lake has developed a service project providing a career and life skills program, presented monthly to complement the Horizonte Young Parent Program targeting teen mothers between 11-18 who are completing their High School Education. We have extended the support and mentoring when students have decided to continue on to college. The program is currently benefiting 80 young parents and children yearly. Horizonte Nursery cares for the children while the students are in class. We support the nursery with supplies, equipment and financial aid.

SI of SLC Wins Semi-Finalist Award from SIA! Our Horizonte Young Parents Project, called “Possibilities”, won one of the semi finalist awards from SIA for “Soroptmists Celebrating Success! 2008.” Thanks to Kay Ruiz for submitting the awards application and to everyone in the club for your contributions and continued hard work on behalf of the young women who we love at Horizonte.
